You wouldn't be able to take the hose and connector apart after that, and hoses 
ware out too much for anything permanent.

  I wonder if you cleaned up the inside and outside of each mating component 
then xmearing some rubber cement around the inside of the female component 
before pushing them together and clamping down. Pressing the one end into the 
other would tend to spread the glue particularly if you twist back and forth as 
you do it.
