That is a good point!

Just plug the VCR or DVD into a decent boom box with remotes.

I'll think about that. I think I even have a unit which doesn't play tape or 
DVD for some reason but should receive television signals well enough.

  a receiver with a cable tuner in it, or just a cheap VCR with a cable 
  tuner, and then run the audio from the VCr to a nice receiver.

  I had a VCR hooked up to my stereo for years before I actually got a TV. 
  That doesn't work so well if one person is sighted. *GRIN*
