Hi,
I use a wireless router from SBC/AT&T. It is called Two Wire and it works
quite well. On the computers I use external Linksys devices. I really do
like the external cards because you can just unplug it and plug in a new one
should the unit fail. It is an USB connection.
I live in a mobile home and the far computer is some 80 feet from the
router. The signal has to pass through 4 walls to reach the far computer.
Someone at AT&T told me that you should subtract 10 feet in distance for
each wall the signal had to pass through. My Del laptop has no problem
linking up to the Two Wire router either.

Subject: Re: [SPAM] [BlindHandyMan] using a wireless router

Lee,

I have a linksys wireless router and it does fine. Sometimes the problem
is just antenna positioning. Other times, some old houses with all that
metal lath really play havoc on a wireless system.

Some routers can be modded a bit to boost their output power but it would
depend on make and model on just how you would do this.

You can get a bridge to extend your range, or, put a long cable on the
router and stick it to the ceiling in the stairway.

There is the sacrificing a chicken dance, but I have only had mixed
results with that method.
