Hi Ed

The best advice is to cut off square assemble dry first before gluing and
file each end or sandpaper each end so it has a small chamfer.
I just checked my pipe fittings and they do not have an external mark on the
outside so you can measure the depth of each fitting.
Use a depth gauge or a combination square and place some electrical tape at
the depth of each fitting on the pipe so you know it is seated fully.
The old saying about measuring twice and cutting once is wise.
Luckily PVC pipe is cheap so if you stuff up try again.
Cut off square and assemble dry first is the go.

Regards
Ray
