Please excuse my ignorence here, but is the extension absolutely  
necessary? I imagine it is, but is it more to just keep your location  
nailed down and a way to use smaller measurement indicators? Would it  
be possible to take a tape and just simply tactually mark it every  
1/16 inch, sort of like the typical braille rulers? I had one of the  
braille tapes a while ago, but can't recall how you used it exactly.  
There may be a physical reason why a tape couldn't be made and more  
likely the size of the case as the embossed area increased means a  
larger case would be required. Don't know, just some thoughts and  
comments.
