Several years ago I installed a large electric oven on top of the counter
with an electric cooktop a little ways away from the oven. The cooktop had
raised glass covers over the coils so drips couldn't get below. Both unit
had heavy duty coils and put out more heat than a typical gas range and the
glass coil covers were strong enough to hold large pots. Had the ease of
cleaning of a flat glass top and the raised covers helped me find the
burners. It did take more counter space but I was nearly doubling the
counter space at the same time.

range+reason for gas question

The double oven I was talking about in the wall is the one over the other
style. I would think a side by side would require a lot of baking to make
it worth the lost space.

Coil cook tops are still made and they also still make the solid plate
type.

While I haven't been in the market for a range in a long time the standard
sizes are 24 and 30 inches. There are now many larger as well. I have only
seen double side-by-side ovens in wider ones but there may be some as narrow
as 30 inches I don't know that. I have also seen some one above the other
but not often, more commonly when I lived in England.

So, they do make the top you want but I don't know about the double oven.

There's a twist. I want a double oven range with a *coil* cooktop.
However,
I don't know of any ranges that have this setup, so thought gas (at least
for the top) was my only choice. Hence, I asked about running a gas line.
Now, lets suppose gas is not an option. Can you fit a double oven and a
cooktop in the same space as a standard range? This is assuming of course
  coil cooktops are still made.
