There are now several out there, these I have also came from my Lee Valley wish list.
They seem pretty good, I noticed today while routing, when the wood contacted the bit they kicked in immediately but slowly came back. While running my belt sander they didn't come back until I turned it off. My brad nailer silenced them immediately. They are a little weird though, only in mono but as you say, one has a chance to hear stuff once the sound dies. I am particularly looking forward to using them in the summer with my chipper. That thing is outrageously loud when you are near it. My trouble is that I either forget to put hearing protection on or I lay it down and can't find it when I need it. I should also probably have a full face mask I have a bad habit of bending over into things and I never remember to put on safety glasses, usually end up closing my eyes tightly which probably confuses hell out of any observing neighbours. I did see some at Houseoftools.com I think for sale in December about 20 bucks cheaper, thirty bucks I think they were if you hurry. Who is the manufacturer I really could use something like that. I have some great ear muff style protection but the problem is that when I turn off my power tool for a few minutes I can not hear if someone is calling me. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dale Leavens" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2007 7:12 PM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] new tools I got a couple of tools for Christmas, a pair of Japanese saws, I used one already, a rather spectacular little hand saw. I also got a ratcheting hand pruner, a rather fine plumb bob and a rather good sliding bevel. It uses a thumb clamp to lock in the angle so you can operate it with one hand and it presses flat so you don't have a wing nut in the way. I also got an earmuff style electronic hearing protection. When the sound is below a certain level a microphone activates so you can hear, there is a volume control. When a sudden noise happens or the background is beyond a certain level it shuts down. Otherwise I bought myself the Wayfinder Navigator GPS software for my cell phone and a Holux GPS receiver. Trouble is there isn't hardly any information for this area. So far I haven't figured out much but I haven't had much time. I also bought a Cirius satellite receiver which I am also figuring out.
