Unfortunately many devices which now handle TV won't function properly after
2/09. For example, I have a scanner which covers almost everything from the
11-meter band up to a bit over 900MHZ. This means it could get the current
TV bands. This was very handy when traveling as I could search just the TV
bands in a new location and get the audio from all the local stations.
Being a hand-held scanner, it was small and used one of those rubber
antennas that sticks up about 6 inches. Anyway, there won't be adapter
boxes for this and similar things. Some of the TV-radios just won't work
after that date and converters won't be available for them I'm assuming
that some of the older radios that used to get TV signals will not have
converters readily available. My current TV gets basic cable service
without a cable box at this time. The cable service is unclear as to
whether I will need to use a "cable box" or not once the change goes into
effect. Unfortunately, I would need a very pricey antenna installation here
before I could do away with the basic cable service. I could do away with
the TV, but there is a risk that at that ;point my wife could do away with
me. Ron Denis
