hi, I have one sort of a fancy one. I got it from Lowes. Its has a miter
that swivels like a power miter saw. They also have places where they lock
into certain angles that are more popular. It came with a saw that sits on 4
long rods. This way the saw stays in the exact same space. The four rods
will let the saw raise up to about 5 inches with out coming off them. This
way you can cut 4 by 4 with ease. It will also cut up to a 6 inch wide
boards. The back fence will support up to 4 inch thick boards. It can also
be mounted to a saw horse so you can handle long boards and make it more
stable. It also will take different blades so you can have different ones
for cutting in different type of materials. from wood to metal. I think it
is made by Stanley but not sure. Just thought I would share this.

They are fine as a guide. Although you can get away without one, you need to
use a back saw with a miter box because it is stiffer and won't flex when
cutting.

What do you think of the miter boxes? Has anyone used them? Just wondering
as my mother's husband got me one.
