Concerns over water rates on these tankless water heaters gave
me concerns of conflict with water saver items.
Small print after the headline tells all. On smaller ones the
rate was given at 4.5 gallon per minute without temp given. Temp
rise on some was 45 degrees above ingoing water temp. At 2,25 g/min.
the temp rise was 90 degrees, etc.
Small single item supply units start at costs at almost 400
bucks, with whole house units around a thousand. Inputs with gas go
fron 20 kbtu to 140 kbtu with effiency running at 84 percent. These
units can be mounted inside or outside of your house. Electric units
start with 9 to 12 kwh heaters depending on power sourse of 208 or
220 volt supply. Small single sourse electric supply units use over
40 amps on a 60 amp breakers. Larger units will have multiple
electric connections with amperage usage almost reaching 100 amps.
These buggers can be used as electric hot water furnaces for heat.
The savings for the most part are a result of close distances of
being heated and being used, and no or very small tank volume to
maintain temp. Water usage is kept down by not running the water
waiting for it to be hot. In a larger home one would want a single
unit for each bath and kitchen for dedicated tankless or small 2.5
gallon units to temper water when hot water has to come a distance
from one central water heater.
Flow rates on the small booster type for under a sink go as low
as 3 tenth of a gallon per minute, which is good for just getting a
cup of hot water. Temps can be set so no scalding can be done for
safety.
