Some time ago I found myself doing trim on quite a few doors. I made me a
template with I believe a quarter inch reveal. I stood the side piece up and
then slid the template along the jam to space it evenly. I use a brad nailer
to put them in place so once everything was set it was easy from there

  Subject: [BlindHandyMan] trim

  Hi,
Anyone have tips for installing trim around doors. I seem to have an H of a
time with it. I bought a couple of precut packages to copy for the rest of
the doors, but I have troubles getting the top piece centered and with the
proper 1/8 lip on the door frame showing. Some install with none of the
door frame showing, but I don't care for that. The trim I have will be
  installed with mitered corners.
  Thanks,
  Michael
