yep, aren't pattent laws interesting? The part that burns me, in your story is that you were no longer allowed to make them. A picture of yourself with one, and that day's newspaper would have made that the new manufacturerer's problem instead of yours. I was funding some pattent work for an item I was making with a partner. Knowing I was almost completed my partner, demanded 80% of all future proffits on this item; upon our disolving our cooperative venture. As I hadn't gotten any percentage of the units he sold, (nor he mine) I told him I was assuring the he'd get his percentage of all pattented items. At that point, I got my unused retainer from the patternt atourney and let the one year grace period run out. Would 20% have been enough to buy back my self respect. No.
It's really rather uncool for the manu's or retailers to do what you've described. Especially that you can't do your own anymore. but then the story of Mark Levinson, making amplifiers; and not being able to use his own name to make any more after he sells his company to someone who said they'd change the name then suews him to continue using it... well that's a classic case. Supposedly the same thing happened surrounding the establishment of A.C. verses D.C with Tesla and that whole crowd.
