Dan, Check with your local you-hall franchise. I rented one from them once and it seemed like it was only about $15 for the day. We used it to move a 600LB safe to a second story bedroom.

Possibly treads that maybe fold out a bit so that you don't have to lay the whole thing flat down on the stairs and then double yourself in half to try and grab the handle which is now on the steps.
