Is the grass coming through a deliberately left void in the paving or is this
just random disintegration of the surface?

They make some pretty damn big patches in the roads here in town every spring,
a square foot shouldn't be all that difficult.

You might want to buy or rent a roller when the time comes to match the surface
with the original driveway. I have one I fill with water but must drain in the
winter to keep it from distorting or rupturing. some fill them with sand but I
like the ability to empty and therefore lighten it if I wish.

When you dig out the old vegetation you may find you want to pack in some
additional sand before applying the patch material depending on how much you
dig out.

I have, approximately, several one foot square patches of grass
shining through. Does this mean the drive way is toast?
