The OP indicated when it is set at cold, the fill is cold water. If it was do to distance from the water heater, the fill would turn hot, she stated the rinse is when it gets steaming hot. You turn the hoses around, what the OP knows as cold will now be hot, but that will give the cold rinse. So, I think it is a combination of hoses, and labeling. When the hoses are switched, what is now the hot wash and hot rinse, will be the cold wash and cold rinse. Michael

Most of the control labels I see are stenciled directly onto the painted panel so to be mislabeled the wiring behind the switch must be wrong. I wouldn't think so, most rinse in cold water. But if the initial fill is correct, I wouldn't think your hoses are wrong. If you set it for cold wash, and the first fill is cold, the hoses are right. But it is possible the knob is labeled wrong, so instead of being cold, it is actually hot, and if that is the case, the hoses would be wrong. Our washing machine has three water temperature settings: hot, warm and cold! If we initially want to wash a load in cold, the water goes into the machine cold. However, when the rinse cycles begin and the initial water has been expelled from the machine and it is filling for the rinse cycles, the water comes out steaming hot! This is the same with all cycles! If I start with hot initially, the rinse cycles are hot, of course, and that makes sense. If I start with warm initially, the rinse cycles also fill the washer with hot water, but you would think the water would be warm or cold, depending on the initial setting it was placed on!
