Hi Max, I used to have a Cd of that sort, and it actually had brush bristles sticking out of the disc surface, at various places on the disc so it covered the entire lens at one point or another.
There was always a cleaning solution that could be used with the CD, but I really never had to use it. Mind you, this was for a compact disc player, and not for DVD players, however, I would imagine that the process is the same for both, as both use lenses to operate.
