William, If I understand this correctly I am pretty sure that the frame isn't attached to the plaster, only to the edges of the box which passes through the wall. You may be able to push the entire thing into the wall a short distance but I suspect it has been nailed some place along the walls of the box.
If not, I would be tempted to just hold the frame a little away from the wall with a stick or something, force a bit of calk, something like silicone is what I like, it sticks like mad then gently press the frame into that bed of goo and with a wet finger wipe around the frame to smooth away any of the squeezed out calk and make a nice air tight transition.
