I have purchased a few different brands of those 'F' type clamps and either
break them by squeezing too tight or the darn things just don't hold. I do have
a few from Wolfecraft which work extremely well and I happily use them for
persuasion or glue-up or a number of things and I would be happy to have more
however I can't seem to find a Canadian supplier any more. They aren't cheap of
course. I really like the one handed capability.

I bought a bunch of 2 and 4 foot clamps on sale about a year ago from Lee
Valley which seem to have been good value, 10 of each but they aren't one hand
operation. I now only really need a few smallish ones, probably about 6 inches,
maybe I'll smuggle a few in next time I am in Europe or maybe the States.

The bessey clamps are pretty expensive too but they do grip firmly.

Personally, those quick grip type clamps never seem to last that long. I
don't use them for glue ups or assembly work. I will use
them for an extra hand to clamp something to my bench or hold a straight
edge. The also work well to clamp a stop block to a
  fence. (stuff like that).

For glue ups and assembly, I like the bessey clamps. You probably won't find
them on sale much though. At least, I haven't.
