Hi hear in South Africa we get tiles with a non slip surface, from being slightly mat finish to tiles with a brick like feel to it. I would think that it would be suitable for elderly people. I don't know if tile comes with easy-to-clean textured surfaces, but one of the things we considered here is that we have elderly visitors and water or grease on a slippery floor can be very dangerous to unsteady feet.
