We have vinyl. It is one solid piece. The newer vinyls are thicker 
than the one we took up. I like it because it is warm on the feet 
which is important because we don't wear shoes in the house. Also, if 
you drop glass on it, depending on how it hits, usually it doesn't break.

Some vinyl has grooves that you can feel, but mine looks like tile 
but you can't feel the grooves. However, it isn't the most economical 
way to go.
