Most burning is done after the dryer shuts off and items are not removed. If
the lint trap and vent pipe all are open and the dryer can do a normal cool
down nothing usually gets harmed. What happens it will shut down and sit at
one spot and lack of air flow if overfilled can also cause an improper cool
down, that is when the damage is done. If the unit is running and it overheats
the safety thermostat will turn the heat off.
