Hi List, I'm trying to figure out how to make white, rubber weather stripping dark brown. Here's the deal. I'm building my daughter a cedar chest. I want to put weather stripping around the top for two reasons: 1. It will seal the cedar smell inside. 2. It will give the lid a cushion to come down on when it closes, rather than banging against wood. I have found the exact kind of weather stripping that I want to use. It's rubber, with just the right amount of squeeze to it. But it's white. I can coat it with the same dark stain that I'm putting on the maple wood I'm using to build it, or I could use paint to color it. But I'm concerned that whatever I put on will peel or wear off over time. Does anybody have an idea of what would be an effective way to color the strip? Just had a thought. Do you think a permanent marker would work? Blessings, Tom
