Where does one get a kilowatt unit? How much do they cost? Do they simply
plug in between the unit you are measuring and the wall receptacle?

thanks
Al

  Subject: [BlindHandyMan] KiloWatt

I recently had an experience with a KiloWatt unit. My buddy and I were
comparing electric bills. His is about three times higher than mine. I
asked if he still had that old beast of a refrigerator that came with the
house when he purchased it ten years ago. He didn't believe me when I
guessed that the fridge was the culprit.

He purchased a KiloWatt and found that his fridge is sucking down about
5KWH a day. That is about 1825 KWH a year.

Here are a couple of comparisons.

My house consumes 5.5KWH a day, on average. So, his fridge is sucking
down about 90% of my total consumption.

The largest standard fridge we could find online, a 28.5 cubic foot
behemoth, consumes 450 KWH a year, which is like 25% of his crappy little
  fridge.

  he's buying a new fridge.

Also, since I've started turning off my computers rather than leaving them
all running 24X7, and replaced all the lights with CF bulbs, I've lowered
  my electric bill about 20%.
