Yep, that is correct and I just cleaned mine. It was nasty/wicked  
gross. I don't know how it gets so bad considering no one uses that  
sink for other than washing their hands or brushing teeth. I do  
however think that some of these stoppers are designed poorly and  
promote build-up. Funny you mention this because I have to find a  
washer to replace the one on the little ball assembly that goes into  
the pipe that controls the stopper. Cheap plastic crap broke. It's  
hard to find good sink hardware anymore.
