I could be way wrong, I'm not a washer repairman.

$400 repair is buying a new washer huh?

The new front loads use less water.
I have always ben fond of Maytag, but I don't have a front loader yet.
I've heard that places like Home Depot and Lowes have decent prices.
Sam's, BJ's, Cosco, may have great prices also.
Check the Consumer Reports website (I assume they have one) and see what
it rated highest; for your consideration.
Best and hopefully it all goes smoothly.
