I take your point about the battery. That's the trouble with PP3 connectors, 
they do wear after a while. Whoever invented them needs shooting.

I used to have two rechargeable NIMH PP3 batteries, that way I always had a 
charged one when it started giving crazy readings.

    My main gripes with the Cobolt tape measure are things like it eats
