Bob, Yes, I figured out all of that. Where my concern is when you just set
it on a flat surface. the tab at the front is 1/4 inch by about 1/8 inch
down. The tab in the back is 1/4 inch by about 1/2 inch down so the unit
will not sit parallel on a flat surface. As for the extensions I have the
original rotomatic. It was made in 1950 at the Overbrook School For the
Blind near Philadelphia. It has a two foot extension that fits the click
rule so I can go out to six feet with the unit. My rotomatic has three
options 1, 2, or 3 feet.

Each of the tabs that stick out are a quarter inch thick. The difference
between the first and second tab is 6 inches. When you extend the rule all
the way out it is then 12 inches long.

For inside measurements, I try to use the tab on the end where the rule
comes out. If you put the tab inside the box or what ever you're measuring,
remember to add a quarter inch to the final measurement.

A little extra you may already know but if not...
As you extend the rule, you can count each click, or there are little raised
tabs, they look like a thumb nail, on the top side of the rule. Each of
those is a half inch. You will want to actually see the mark just beyond
the barrel for it to be a half inch. There are 1/16 inch marks along the
side of the rule as it comes out as well. You can finger nail these to
count just like a Braille ruler.

Each of the extensions screw into the end of the next extension with the
first going into the end of the rule. The extensions are all a foot long
when seated.

See if this makes any sense.
