Well, I never used a 5/8 inch bit or higher and with that large chuck I
could not use any small bits. Now I can use the fine bits. One time to try
and use a fine bit I wrapped it in tape to try and hold it in the chuck. It
worked for the first hole. I could not use anything smaller than 1/8 inch.
So I made a contraption that I placed a 1/4 inch chuck in to the 5/8 inch
chuck. This worked but not very well. So for me it is a major upgrade. The
guy at Grizzly also gave me a tip on changing the chuck. The instructions on
the drill press told you to hold a board under and tap it up in place. This
guy suggested that I place a piece of wood on the table and pull the lever
down to seat the chuck. He said that you can actually get more force because
there is not enough room to try and tap it up. It worked fantastic.

Lenny,

Am I reading this correctly, you replaced your 5/8" chuck with a ½" chuck?
Please explain to this moron how decreasing the size of the chuck 1/8" is an
upgrade? I'm obviously missing some little detail here! ;-)
