Claudia, When Carol and I had our upstairs bathroom in Wheaton, IL. remodeled we opted for one of these "tub surrounds" for several reasons:
1) the original tub was badly pitted, scratched and in generally horrible condition 2) the existing wall tile was done horribly and proved to be a bitch to clean - including the crappy grouting job 3) the cost of a "regular" tub and walls was about three times that of the tub surround 4) the new tub surround proved to be quite easy to clean and looked terrific 5) the new tub surround protected the integrity of the support walls I believe the surround we bought was made of an acrylic plastic. But then, we had no little ones to cause damage. Unless you've got a well healed bank account, these acrylic or fiberglass surrounds (tub included) are marvelous for cleaning and look fine although the tub seems a bit flimsy when you stand in it. ---- Holland's Person, Bill E-Mail: [email protected] - "A cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin." - US Editor and Satirist, H.
