the olimpus DS 50 has audobol features so when navigating around you're able
to hear what you're doing. It records in stario if that is something that
you like doing, if quality is what you're looking for their not the greatest
with sound so loud noises make it clip. If you record on low volume or no
volume then you will be fine and it won't clip that much. just for a meeting
or a speech it works really well but if you're recording a concert it clips
a little. to the untrained ear it doesn't sound that bad. I have one and use
it for University. I like it a lot and with the USB connection it makes it
great. some recorders you have to install a program and this one out of the
box when you plug it in it opens as if it's a memory stick and you just have
to play around with it for a little while but once you figure out what
folder the recordings go in you will be fine and can save them as you wish
onto your desktop. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask and I will
let you know. If you would like I can make a few sample recordings for you
and send them to your e-mail as an attachment. Let me know. If you're not
wanting to go about it that way check out
www.blindcooltech.com
this site has a lot of sample recordings with differet recorders and mikes.

Looks like it is time to retire my tape recorder. I just read a little about
the Olympus dm420 and dm520. Are these the best two options?
