If all you're doing is recording notes, lists, phone numbers, etcetera, I
highly recommend mine, bbut, have to wait till my wife gets home to tell me
the model. It was about 55 dollars at Staples, has two triple A batteries
and they last forever. It has four files and is very user friendly. It
allows 100 messages per file. Can't remember the total hours. Will follow
up when Beth gets home, so I can get Model number.

Thanks to all, now I must do more research. I primarily want it for taking
notes etc. I would never, (never say never) record music.

I didn't look at the specs for the DM420 and DM520, but assume the
announcement I just read, talking about the new DM4 and DM5 is probably
the same. Not only does the DM4 and 5 have audible menus, but they do
text to speech, voice commands, and can read DAISY texts. Seems like the
way to go for me, if I wasn't already using my cell phone for most of
this. Although, my cell phone doesn't have the same recording quality as
the Olympus devices. But just think of it, off-the-shelf technology with
text to speech and DAISY capabilities. Nice job Olympus.
