A good morning - I agree - the Skaggs response on "Classic Stanley" is a hoot! The "How Far to Little Rock" routine on "Live In Japan" gets a little silly as well. BUT, the real comedy can be found on the live recordings of the Stanley Brothers. Notably, the Copper Creek label "Stanley Series" volumes (which, I'm most sure, are out of print) have some wonderful live comedy routines that feature George Shuffler, Big Wilbur (Melvin Goins), and Tennessee Mort (Lindy Clear). It really doesn't get any better than this! I suggest you try www.coppercreekrecords.com and inquire about the "Stanley Series" volumes. Who knows, they may still have a few lying around the place. Good luck!
By the way, James: This year's festival was GREAT! What's up with the 'no hats' look? I really enjoyed the show! You guys are simply fantastic! I am so thankful the rest of the world has finally taken notice to this wonderful music that I've loved my whole life (and already knew was great). Take good care - good to see you again ... and George, of coarse. Godspeed! Ricky replied, "Who's my favorite tenor singer? (pause)...Don Reno." You can hear the band cracking up in the background. I thought that was pretty funny too...
