Ray

I'd like to draw your attention to AS/NZS 3760:2003 (incorporating amendment
No.1) issued August 2005, Under the Scope section it clearly states in Clause
1.1.6 "This standard does not apply to equipment whose nature is that of a
medical device as defined in AS/NZS 3551."

But just to confuse things it also states in the AS/NZS 3551:2004 standard as
well as the Draft amended one (DR06744CP) under Appendix E (Informative): A
label should also be affixed to the cord as well.

Best regards

        Ray, et al

The "Test and tag" tests to AS 3760, which allows an earth resistance
of 1 ohm.
AS 3551 allows an earth resistance of 0.2 ohm, or if the power cord is
detachable, 0.3 ohm ( 0.2 ohm can be in the power cord).

So I don't believe that a "test and tag" of the power cords of medical
devices is adequate.

Subject: [bmelist] Electrical Safety testing vs Test and Tag

        Hello all.

Would appreciate feedback as to how the Biomed Fraternity is addressing
the above conundrum so that all and sundry, including auditors can clearly see
that the equipment has been tested.

Do we tag the lead as in "test and Tag" as well as the equipment?
Do we allow "test & tagging" of all mains leads and ourselves
concentrate on testing the equipment to AS3551?

The answer may be obvious to most but I've been feeling a tad thick of
late.

        regards

        Ray Bowles.
