I did something else stupid. Over the weekend I helped my friend fix his
squeaking blower fan in the 533i of 1982 flavor. You know, the one located
right behind the firewall panel under the windshield. We took it out to
clean it and lubricate the non-serviceable bushings. Well, it doesn't
squeak now BUT, I dropped the damned thing and broke one of the plastic fan
blade thingies (there is one on each side of the bosch motor). Does anyone
have one of these? Please? Please with icing on top? Anybody? Anybody?

Some specific reasons why have been mentioned already, but also static
friction is generally (always?) more than dynamic. When the wheel is
locked, it's dynamic with respect to the surface (moving across it);
with ABS it's relatively static with respect to the surface.

This combined with specific effects of the tire/surface contact point
combine to give a better slowing effect with ABS. On a flat dry
surface.

Or so I understand it. I'm probably wrong, at least partially.

Too, ABS isn't all about stopping quicker; it's as much or more about
being able to control your flying chunk of steel while trying to
stop/slow. Locked wheels do nothing for that.

Anybody know where I can get ATE Super Blue in greater Los Angeles
(preferably the west-side). I know this list is mostly National (and some
international) across the US; but, you're all so darn helpful anyway and I
don't expect someone who doesn't live in L.A. to be able to help... Steve
D' can't ship it via UPS Air with everything else I ordered and UPS Ground
won't get here in time for me to do the work this weekend with all the other
parts.

The M Coupe/Roadsters have a Torsen (read worm-gear) differential.
Coincidentally, they also have massively finned differential covers to aid
cooling. These covers happen to be a bolt on for the E30 M3 8^)

Now this last weekend I was at Beverly Hills BMW laying on the floor looking
at the bottom of a new M5 ($50,000 dealer mark up be the way!).

Lo and behold, the M5 also has a massively finned diff' cover! A bolt on for
older 5-series maybe? Does the new M5 also use a Torsen differential?

Beautiful car.

Yes they are! Unless they have been dinged up by any road debris. Mines did.
Heck after doing some 360's over 100mph from Turn 9 at WillowSprings, I'm
sure I had some underbody damage other than my new color of brownish tan
violet M3!
BMW didn't cover mine and cost was $120 to R&R.

  Hello everyone,

We are building 3 E46 328Ci race cars for the 2000 World Challenge series.
One of the things we are allowed to run is the M3 LTW oil pan and pump. We
are looking for anyone who has one and is willing to part with it for a
reasonable amount. Any help will be greatly appreciated. And, we'll let you
say that your parts are the reason we are going to win races this year <g>.

Hey Scott - I thought I read someplace (autorace.com?) that Zanardi was still going to
get paid for the year (7 mil?) and his contract said something about no other open
wheel competition for one year. I assumed by this that Team
Willimas-BMW-Castrol-Compaq-whatever would use him up doing test laps at home as long
as they were paying him?

I loved the joke last year -> Why wouldn't Williams let Zanardi drive the team
transporter? They would only have gotten to 10 out of 16 GP's. Ok, all you Zanardi
fans, get your fingers off the reply button - its a joke, ok.

Yep, S4 is a great car, if you can find one.
Tired of waiting for an E46 330i, I drove by two local Dallas Audi dealers
hoping to test drive/buy an S4. Not only do they not have any on their lots
to test drive, but S4 is locally sold out 4 months in advance. At full
sticker!
Audi must has done something right with that car.
The only downside to S4 is its 3600? lbs weight.

BMW has never tested a V8 M3 and they do not ever intend on shoehorning
a V8 in a 3 series chassis. This car is only a rumor created by the
automotive journalists. The only company putting V8s in the 3 series is
Alpina.

A good bet would be an 84 or 85 318i auto. They come pretty cheap these
days. Not super-sporty, but still has the "character" of all E30s.
Unfortunately I don't have any leads for you, just an idea...

I've only seen fairly bad E28s in real life, but that M5 is sweet! Has to

Exactly. Competition is healthy for everyone, especially the
consumer. Only problem is that BMW is pricing themselves out of the market.
I hear the E46 ix will only be available in the wagon and at that only the
323. Doesn't make much sense to me to offer the heavier AWD running gear
in the least powerful model. A chipped A4 1.8t Avant (wagon) is gonna kill
it for 5 grand less. Don't get me wrong, the new ix does peak my interest,
I just want to see if it measures up dollar for dollar. Hmmm, wonder if
the 3.2 will drop in with the AWD gear?

This is why I carry a disposal camera in the car door pocket. I was hit and
the driver ran, not before I took his picture. Nice picture of the driver and
another of the plate. Lucky the car was insured but the driver was with a
suspended license. Oops...and if you think speeding is expensive, try hit and
run with a suspended license.

On the other hand my brother-in-law was lightly rear-ended and the guy took off
before he looked back to see the guy shooting for the off-ramp to the right.

Well, I guess the subject line says it all. Those of you who know me are
aware that I looked long and hard before deciding on this particular E36:

94 325is - 03/94 prod.
M50TU/B25 VaNoS
5 speed manual
Schwarz III Black/Black leather interior
Under 82k miles
$19,000

All the usual refinements, incl:
Power Seats
Seat heaters
Cold A/C
Sunroof
Cruise Control
ASC - Traction Control

Also:
Rear Mudflaps
Chrome Exhaust tips
Eclipse cassette head unit with 6 disc trunk mounted CD changer
TMS Chip
AC Schnitzer Rear Spoiler w/LED brake light
Kamei headlight eyebrows
Clear front signals
Tinted rear and quarter windows

Just replaced water pump and thermostat, oil change, new fuel filter,
redline in tranny
Books and flashlight in the glovebox, toolkit is fully intact
recently replaced cracked foglight

I have not owned this car for very long (~6 months), and there are very few
things in this world which could persuade me to part with it, but the
opportunity to purchase a 95 M3 has come up... Car does not have full OBC,
only temp sensor/check control. Like all 94 E36's this one has dual airbags
and ABS, in addition to ASC. Oil changed every 3.5k since I've had it,
washed and waxed regularly. Very nice exterior, nothing shines quite like a
well-waxed black car. There are no obvious marks or scratches in the paint,
although I cannot say the PO was a Q-tipper. Interior is even cleaner,
nearly a 10/10, no stains, original BMW mats, what else can I say? This is a
very nice car!! Between the legal tints and the spoiler, it has been
regarded as fairly sinister looking, not your granny's E36. Friends
initially attempted to call it Hotblack Desiato (Douglas Adams fans know
what I mean) but being that at least one other BMW that I'm aware of (RIP)
was already christened with that name (Hi Ken!) it instead became known as
"The Light Vortex." It has that quality of being so dark it sucks in all the
ambient light...

Vehicle is located in Mahopac, NY (not far from White Plains), although I am
a part-time resident of Worcester, MA.
