In my job as a claim adjuster I see several police reports
each day involving traffic accidents. I am in Texas and officers
routinely give citations (when not present in person to observe
the accident) based on analysis. Prima facie evidence such as
skid marks, physical damage, eyewitness testimony and the
physical orientation of items at the accident scene can certainly
be enough to serve a citation.

Providing I understood the original post correctly, the height of the clutch
pedal should not change with clutch disc wear on newer BMW's. The takeup
occurs hydraulically at the slave cylinder, similar to a brake caliper/pad.
Typically the clutch actuation leg pressure force increases with clutch wear.

Also, it is recommended to turn off ASC+T briefly when accelerating from a
stop on ice. The human computer may have it's weaknesses, but it shines when
it comes to adaptability and flexibility.

Becuase the cop's duty is to protect the citizenry. Is the purpose
to collect revenue, or is the purpose perhaps to slow traffic down?
What's the use of hiding in the woods if you're trying to slow
traffic down?

I see. The rules apply to us but not to them. How about murder? Is
that

Its a capitalist country Ted. Free will. No one is gonna hand

can always switch jobs. Demand and Supply keep the salaries

The January Roundel lists Lou Bauer as the contact for Gateway Tech. His

also on their web site at http://www.stlbmwclub.com/gatewaytech.html.

For those of you who haven't attended before, the St Louis chapter does an
outstanding job with Gateway Tech. The tech sessions are worthwhile, the
dinners are great, the vendor area is an excellent place to unload some
cash, you get to see a bunch of good BMW CCA friends, and the door prizes
are tantalizing (make sure you register before February 25th to get those 5
extra door prize tickets). Plus, a large chunk of the net proceeds go to a
very worthwhile charity.

Subject: [uuc] safety or revenue collection

I recently was awarded my first speeding citation in 20+ years. This
doesn't mean I don't speed, but it does mean I am judicious in my choices
of WHERE and WHEN I do so. In this case, I was cited for doing 63 in a 45.
Rural road, recently re-paved and widened, NO OTHER CARS on the road, and
speed limit recently LOWERED from 55 to 45. The state trooper told me a
"concerned citizen" had complained to the highway department that folks
were ignoring the new speed limit, so he was dispatched to assess the
situation. In investigating my options, a lawyer told me that, given my
driving record, she could probably get the speeding citation changed to
"FAULTY EQUIPMENT"! It would mean no points on my license, and no impact
on my insurance. It would also mean the SAME FINE for the public coffers,
SAME COURT COSTS, plus $200 for the lawyer. If the goal is safety, then
the citation should stand, irrespective of the fact that I was endangering
NOONE on an empty road that had previously, while narrower and with poor
pavement, had a higher speed limit! This is a perfect example of why there
is NO RESPECT for the current application of speed limits! I wasn't even
driving my BMW, or my Porsche(sorry!), but a imported pick-up truck! What
a JOKE!(NOT funny)

Stupid question. I got the rechargeable flashlight for the glovebox
of my E30 M3. Does anyone else have the problem that it doesn't seem
to fit right? Pushing it into the socket and then closing the glvoe
box, it seems that the patch above the flashlight doesn't let it close
well, so you have to force it, which pushes the socket down, and
eventually out of the holder. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Jim Ochi said it, but I wanted to add one thing about DOT approved. I
believe that one big factor is that DOT approved harnesses require
that candy-red release button. I think this is for emergency
situations, so the harnesses can be easily found and released. The
Schroth Rallye's have a red release button.

Subject: [uuc] Auto shows and unlocked cars

I know that we beat the subject to death a few weeks ago, but I thought that
I would add my comments from the Philadelphia Auto show which opened tonight.
Tonight was the private preview "Black Tie Tailgate Party." There were about
2000 people in attendance (so I heard) and most of the cars were unlocked.
Granted, this was an upper class crowded since tickets started at $100. I got
in for free since I volunteered to work the door for an hour. I ended up
working about 45 minutes then got to go eat and enjoy the cars. Of all the
BMW's there only one was locked...the Baby blue M5. You also couldn't sit in
the Z8 since it was on a turntable. But what a cool looking car. Much better
looking in person. Smaller then I thought it would be. Another BMW that stood
out was a RED 740i Sport. Very cool in red. I think they need to start
showing the X5 in a colors other then that desert sand color. Looks great in
black. Other cars that were unlocked were Bentley's and Lamborghini's! And
they had a Diablo VT on sale, "SHOW SALE PRICE" only $179,000.
If anyone in planning to go to this show here is some advice: Don't park your
SUV in the garage at 11th and Arch. The clearance is only 6'3". Lots of
people were breaking their luggage racks. My antenna on the explorer kept
hitting the water pipes ever 3 five feet.
