On an '89 325is! I struggled to get the ECU out of the glove compartment on my '89 325is so I could install my Jim C. chip, only to find that the EPROM is soldered in! What to do? Here are the choices: Purchase a replacement, confirming that it has a socket. A somewhat expensive alternative, but Zionsville has the correct box for $249. I'm sure I could find one for less if I took the time to look. Remove the soldered chip and install a socket. The least expensive alternative, but probably the hardest to perform. Only because of the possibility of frying the original chip (I'd keep it only as a backup), and the difficulty in unsoldering the original chip in the first place. Leave everything as is and return / sell the chip. The worst possible choice, as I'll never experience the magic that is being sharked. Now, how could it be possible that an "i" ECU would have a soldered chip? I called my mechanic, and he could not believe that that was possible for an "i" to have a soldered chip. And from everything I could find online, it seemed as if only "e" ECUs had soldered chips. FWIW, the Motronic number is 0 261 200 525. So, if anyone has a line on one that is confirmed to have a socket, let me know. Thanks in advance. You might want to try something called "Lock Ease" which is made (and works great) for door locks both on the house and on your car. It is basically very fine in a delivery agent that evaporates and leaves things lubricated but dry. Most hardware stores will have the stuff. While you're at it, go ahead and shoot some in your locks. In my job as a claim adjuster I see several police reports each day involving traffic accidents. I am in Texas and officers routinely give citations (when not present in person to observe the accident) based on analysis. Prima facie evidence such as skid marks, physical damage, eyewitness testimony and the physical orientation of items at the accident scene can certainly be enough to serve a citation. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Jan 2000 09:57:02 -0500 From: "Ellie MacDougall" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] helmets My E21 is out having significant engine and performance upgrades (yeah, yeah, I know every E21 needs them).
