Subject: [uuc] RE: riceboy question

Hmmmm....can't we all just get along? =)

It's really strange that anyone (of asian decent or otherwise) would get
offended by the term. Perhaps it's just because I'm confident in myself and I
like to do things with a tasteful manner.

So lessee....what do I consider a riceboy? Anyone who:
- - has a low performance car put blue lights in the turn signals and headlights
(that actually hinder nighttime vision and annoy the hell out of other
motorists)
- - puts a wing on the car that is all show (and it usually more than 6 inches
high) and doesn't do damn for performance or if it did, it would be so
unbalanced that at actualy high speed, would probably make the car lose control
because there was no downforce in the front (remember, if you put the LTW wing
on with the spacers, you need to put the snow plow front splitters on....but
that's only if you're serious about performance and racing).
- - puts huge slabs of vinyl on the body panels. Do you think anyone takes you
seriously with those stickers? Pulease! If I go to a fancy place and pull up
in my non-stickered (save for the 'lil shark on the window) car, I wouldn't be
humiliated at all.  Now place myself in a car that has swooping racing stripes;
Chinese characters up the wazoo; etc; etc, I would feel way stupid in a formal
event. Now, I would understand if you were factory sponsered and stuff
- - puts huge slabes of vinyl of products that you don't even have installed in
the car! Putting a stupid "Type-R" sticker to make up for the fact that your
car isn't? That's just plain stupid.
- - puts a 6" diameter exhaust on the car. Hmmmm.....my car get's perfect
performance from two 2.25" (or was it 2.5") outlets. I don't think a 4 banger
1.5 liter engine that originally had a 3/4" exhaust outlet will face that much
back pressure with a 2 - 2.5 inch exhaust. They sound like bees in a coffee
can and sound extremely obnoxious. Anyone who thinks a Honda with a 6"
diameter exhaust can sounds "mean" has got to get an insanity check.
- - puts a wheelie bar on the back of a FWD car! ...I've seen it done.

Basically, what it comes down to is calling the person an idiot. Someone said
that he knew a few upright people who weren't riceboys. Do they have
bluelights? Maybe it was from ignorance. If you fill them in on the facts
that blue light isn't good for night vision and they still don't listen, then
they are morons! So if you were to call someone a boy racer instead of rice
boy, it's just another way of calling the fellow an idiot, right? I'd like for
you to go up to the owner of such a car and call him any of the different
names: idiot, riceboy, boy racer, ad nasuem. It will still result in the same
effect, he/she won't like you and will probably want to kick your ass.

The same thing goes for those who own a 318i and modify the external stuff to
look like an M3. You call the person a poseur, no? At any rate, it's all in
good fun and I call riceboys as I see them...even if they aren't of Asian
decent (which is even worse because you know they can't read the Chinese
characters they stick on their car). Which reminds me...maybe UUC Motorworks
should come out with a few stickers that sez, "I'm a dickhead" (loosely
translated of course) and see how many gobble them up and put them on their
cars. Heh heh....well, maybe we'd have to sell them in JC Whitney's catalog or
Import Tuner...

Flame suite on....just be forewarned that I'm only kidding.

Have a good weekend,
Chester

So, sounds like Steven believes his brilliant response is way below any
type of dignified reply. Maybe Steven can explain for all of us how
these "hilarious levels" are so easily explained. Should be easy for
such a technically gifted individual.

Now, if I had noted that the filters were dirty, or some other obvious
problem was present, the diagnosis would be easy, and even steven would
have understood. But everything was clean and new.

C'mon BMW genius boy, explain the obvious engineering phenomenom at work
here.

As much as I hate MS, I have to concur. It can only be a conscious
move on Netscape's part to make Navigator suck so badly. They went
out of their way to make it worse than IE.

The dealer is well within its rights to refuse to warranty parts that
you've carried in. While you know that you wouldn't cheat the
dealer, what guarantees the dealer that these parts aren't from a
junker that you're selling parts from or otherwise. In addition,
there may be other problems that you aren't able to ascertain which
would make the dealer (and ultimately BMW) liable for not taking care
of the entire problem.

Considering that replacement of those items would have been covered
under warranty (the entire job, not just the parts), it would have
been wiser to have the dealer perform a check for a problem.

Subject: [uuc] e36 alignment

I am new to the world of BMW having just purchased a 92
325i sedan. The car seems to wonder to the left
slightly, so I decided to have the alignment checked.
I've taken the car to numerous The alignment shops in my
area and was told that they can't align my car because it
requires special weights in the seats and trunk. I
thought I read somewhere that only the M3's required
weights in the car for proper alignment and my car is not
an M3. Should I have the dealer align the car or find a
more competent alignment shop? Thanks for any help.

Moe -

check out an issue of "Max Power" & tell me that most of those cars are not
"rice'ed" out ;-)
I do not believe that the term is not used over there, tho - I think they just
call them "hopeless wankers" <vbfg>

I've seen some of the older series III Jags in and around Andrews Air
Farce Base with the 3-spoke Anteras - chrome ones, no less.
Remember, these cars ARE British - they mark their territory with
grease and oil which is more than fitting for a fish & chips special.
