The owner of a local speedshop where I get my tires done makes a good living
from these guys, but loves it when I come in on a busy day. He'll turn away
from the kids buying aero bits, exhausts and decals to discuss my car mods
and track schedule. It's sooo much fun to watch their eyebrows go up to the
hairline while they're stealing looks from the corners of their eyes. <vbg>
He kept my Kumhos out on the showroom floor so he could tell them about "the
woman who _races_ _her_ car." (I'm not racing yet, but I wouldn't dream of
contradicting him!)

How long ago was this? It's all very interesting to me. I know some basic
stuff about Mosaic and all that but [unfortunately] my age has limited me to
missing out on a bunch of cool stuff.

Ken, before the PB Blaster, I'd just soak the belts good with the hose,
coolant is a water based fluid and will rinse out of the belts.
- ------

I have the same problem on the '85; in intermittent, the wipers do a 1/3
arc, delay, 1/3 more, etc. Bob Shields the PO's mechanic at Bavarian Auto
Service in Rock Hill, SC said it's probably the wiper relay (long skinny
one), just haven't got around to swapping it out.

You guys will change your opinion of the X5 once you drive it, right
Chester? ;-) No M3, but a damn good handling truck, I wouldn't want
anything less.

What about rice rocket? Is that term verbotten as well? I'm
thinking about putting a Integra R badge on my e30 M3 for fun.
With my Nascar resonator and low restriction muffler (What's a
cat?) I get even with Harley's, to hell with the Hondas.

Come on guys. So what if these kids like their Hondas all dressed up?
What does it hurt? Isn't it better to have car enthusiasts than not?
So what if they don't like what you like? What are they hurting? Can't
we look at them and appreciate that they take pride in doing something,
anything, constructive? Especially automotive interests?

I for one enjoy import car shows. I don't own one but I can appreciate
the work that is done on some of the cars and especially the pride the
people take in their cars, whatever the direction. I also like cars
with huge stereos. I like Lowriders. I liked jacked, chromed, painted
4x4 trucks. I like crotch rockets. I like offroad bikes and I like
sand buggies. I like Karts. I like muscle cars and Hot Rods. I like
antique cars and motorhomes. I like custom vans.

I like almost anything with wheels and a motor. And I generally like
the people that like any of those things.

So why don't we give it a rest. People are going to have their
individual tastes and they probably aren't going to be yours.
Appreciate people for their love of the automobile. You don't have to
buy one, but can't you appreciate their passion?

Jim

Ask 'em when they're going to put the 3.9 turbodiesel V8 in it. Wonder if
there's room in the design to stretch it a foot. Wonder if the Land Rover
version will keep the strut front suspension.

Not that I'm particularly an SUV booster, but to introduce a dose of
reality:

An X5 weighs about as much as a 740iL and occupies less space on the road.

Even a Suburban is no larger in dimensions than a typical large Detroit
wagon of the early '70s. A Land Cruiser occupies less space on the road
than a Ford Taurus.

90% of the SUVs on the road are no larger and no heavier than a medium-duty
pickup; even the Excursion is smaller than most of the Ford Super Duty
pickups out there.

John.
