Got this off another list....

Free CarFax title reports for 1981 and later car available at
http://www.carfax.com/fox . The reports were supposed to be available only
for yesterday, but the link worked today too.

It works for U.S. titled cars inclusive of grey market imports.

Hope the news is good for those checking on their own cars!

I'm still trying to figure out what they did to the X5 to get it to weigh a
staggering 4850 pounds and why? The EPA mileage on this beast is only 13 and
17, worse than my friends gigantic Ford 250 pickup with similiar engine. And
55K with common options? Perhaps the 3.0 six version will e more realistic in
all areas...

Frequently the UUC digest becomes saddled down with
sensitive topics, such as the recent topic about
modified Japanese cars. Well, I think it's time we
all lightened up a bit. We can take our frustrations
out on a group of persons who need to be singled out.
Please visit a webpage that hopefully no BMW
afficionado(sp) is a member of. Check out:

Be sure to check out a couple of the links,
specifically the Mullet Hunters page.

Thank you for your support.

Jonathan,
Don't know what your overall experience with BMW NA's site has been,
or any of the listers, but I have found its delivery to be poor and inconsistent.
Whether on a T1 or a 56KB, sometimes the pages load, sometimes they don't.
Many times they load part way.

When folks ask me about new BMW products, I no longer go to NA's
site -- BMW Canada has satisfied my needs with a generally good site -- and
most importantly, it actually works.

Anyone else had problems with the NA site?

Cheers,

Filippo

Subject: [uuc] DC Metro Area 6er list

Hi all, I am trying to gather a list of all the 6ers in the DC Metro Area.
Why am I gathering names? My intention for the list is that I would like to
set-up some spring and summer rallies. We could start our own little "DC 6er
Club." We could meet up at times and take drives in our 6ers to different
locations. We could also gather to trouble shoot our cars, and exchange
ideas. Another idea is that we could go out to tracks or conduct 6er
autocrosses. These are only suggestions, I am definitely up for other
suggestions. If anyone is wants to join please email me back. If anyone is
willing to help me start and run this thing please email me and let me know
this also.

Subject: [uuc] Lightweight Spring Rates???

Does anyone know what the spring rates are for the M3 lightweight? I am
currently using Bilstein Sports with H&R Race springs and have heard that the
lighweight M3 spring rates are matched up better with the Bilstein Sports
valving from the factory.
If I do use the lighweight springs...will it raise my car from it's current
level (since I have the "Race" spring rates from H&R)? Put another way, do
the lightweight springs lower the car more than the factory springs for a '95
M3?
Anyone that's fooled around with various spring rates please help with any
advice you have to offer.

Thanks,

Free Z3 for being hired? Try collegehire.com ... They're giving away
$25k, a "stacked" software development environment, OR a new
323ic. I'd rather take the Z3, except for the facts that the odds of
winning a 323ic is MUCH higher. They're giving away one prize to
*EACH* EECS department at a number of top schools around the
country. The worst odds are one in 100. To qualify, you have to be a
senior, Master's, or PhD student, must submit a resume, and must
complete on-line Java and C++ tests, both about 20 minutes long
each. The odds are based on the fact that the top 50 scores from each
test will be entered, so if you score best in both, you've lowered the
total number of entrants.

The details are here: http://www.collegehire.com/big_reward

We have all had our share of good/bad cop experiences driving our bimmers.
My latest was a little different. I was making a left turn at a major
intersection when I noticed a sheriff vehicle ahead of me making the same
turn. My V1 didn't go off so I knew he didn't had his radar on. There were
4-5 vehicles ahead of me and the sheriff car ahead and in the next lane. The
cars ahead took off beyond the 45 mph limit and so did the sheriff. Being
from Detroit, that was my clue to go with the flow at 52 mph. The sheriff
car slowed down, I passed him. The other cars are now way ahead and I'm
still at 52mph. Sheriff car pulls up beside me and signal for me to roll my
window down. I roll down my window, thinking my tires must be flat or a
taillight is out. By this time I have slowed down to about 49-50 mph. the
cop can't get his window down so he looks frustrated and waves me off. I
motion that I will follow him to the nearest side street. Once pulled over
behind him, he come up to my car and says, " I was trying to get you to slow
down. You were doing 60 mph back there and I did not want to write you a
ticket." Knowing I wasn't doing 60 mph but realizing I was going over the
limit ( going with the flow of traffic is no defense except in Detroit) , I
said " thank you officer, I'll slow it down." He had this surprise look, we
both smile and I went on home ticket, smiling and wondering if he own a
bimmer. What this club needs is more cops who own bimmers and are club
members.

When retracting it give the belt a "tug" and then sort of guide it back the
way it should go. Good seat belt useage for any car.
