A strong cleaner like Spray Nine or a citrus cleaner will get it out. Make
sure you rinse thoroughly to get all the cleaner off. Re-protect the
plastic immediately with Vinylex (or similar high-grade plastic protector)
and re-wax the surrounding paint area that may have been stripped of wax by
the cleaner.

Zach,

I have the M3 muffler on my 325is with a JC chip. I don't know if I felt
any gains by installing it, since I didn't have my GTech then, and the butt
dyno is not to be trusted. BUT, it does sound fantastic! Only gets loud
when you really stomp on it, and you get that nice "burbling" sound when
you get off the gas at high RPMs. The sound is worth is alone. It does
way a bit more than the 325 muffler, so you may negate some of the HP
gains.

Wanted to thank all the folks that organised this for a GREAT time,
and Jim C, and Josh for making it. Like chester, mentioned, finally got
to put a face to the names. Saw Ben and the BAMBISLAYER in flesh
and blood. So the bambislayer DOES exist. Trust me. :)

And now for a question, while Josh was burning Conforti chip for me,
he mentioned the M3 muffler was better (free flowing ) than the stock
325i muffler. So the question is: what difference has anyone felt with
the chip and an M3 muffler vs. stock? How does the M3 'fler help?

thanks,

Ps. Now I'd really like to get the car dynoed with the new JimC Chip.
Anyone
know of a reasonable place in the NY/NJ area? The car does seem to run
smoother with the new chip. Although I haven't really pushed it, to

Sorry for the off topic post, but this DOES explain a lot...

There are a lot of incompetent people around.

The problem is, they don't know it, says Dr. David A. Dunning, a
psychology professor at New York's Cornell University, in the Journal of
Personality and Social Psychology.

He says that the reason they don't know is that the skills people need to
recognize incompetence are the same skills they need to be competent in
the first place. Thus the incompetent often end up "grossly
overestimating" their own competency, even when they're making a mess of
things. At the same time, very competent people tend to underestimate
their abilities.

Dunning notes such studies create a unique danger for the researchers. "I
began to think that there were probably lots of things that I was bad at
and I didn't know it," he said. (New York Times)

I own an 89 325iX and I recently had a new CD player installed. The dealer
failed to hook up the power antenna because they said they couldn't find the
power wire for it. Does anyone have an idea which wire supplies power to
the antenna from a stock deck?

Previous replies - learn some basic electronics first - are good advise.

With modern circuits in automobiles, it is possible to incorrectly apply a
multimeter and "break" something. Example - probing with "Ohms" into
circuits /devices that could be damaged by the small voltage that is applied
from the meter to measure resistance.

So - you need to know about the basics and the circuits under
investigation.

It appears the limiting factor to M5 supply is the fact that BMW only builds 20 of
these engines per day (some go into the Z8) for the worldwide supply. I don't think
BMW will artificially limit the numbers like MB does on the E55 (500 per year in
the US)...remember they got themselves in trouble for this in '88. So supply will
be slow, but eventually will catch up. My MB dealer gets extra E55 allocations
too...but I'm not really sure how this works (do they rob Peter to pay Paul, or do
they sell more then 500/year)??? Needless to say, even with extra allocations of
E55's he doesn't think he'll be able to get a car for everyone who currently has
deposits at this dealership within the 3/year run. I have a feeling the M5 will be
a 2 year wait for supply to catch up.

Subject: [uuc] Suspension advice?

Hello fellow digesters. The time is quickly coming for me to upgrade my
suspension. I would love to hear your advice. Thanks in advance for your
input.

I drive a '99 318ti which came with the "M-tuned suspension". I have
replaced the stock 7x16 rims with 7.5x17 M Contours shod with 225/45/17 MXX3
Pilots. The car is definitely over-tire'd as it is. The extra grip of the
Pilots, the additional amount of rubber on the road and the heavier wheels
are making the stock suspension look bad when driving hard over
less-than-perfect roads.

I use the car strictly as a weekend toy. I drive from my home to a some
extremely tight (mainly 1st & 2nd gear corners) twisty mountain roads here
in the S.F. area and back home again. No commuting and very infrequent road
trips. Therefore, I'm not so concerned about how rough the ride is. My
overriding concern is handling, especially handling on slightly bumping
roads. I also plan on doing as many CCA Driving Schools as I can get into.
(Going to the one at Sears Point next weekend!!!!)

My choice at the moment is:

- - H&R Street Performance Springs (are H&R Race Springs too much for highly
aggressive street driving?)
- - Bilstein Monotube Sports (I've been told to cut the internal bump stop on
these in half. Is that correct? Can I
do this myself w/ ordinary tools?)
- - Install E30 Convertible upper shock mounts in front and back

Any different recommendations for equipment above? Are there any other
things I should do while I'm in there?

Again, thanks for the advice.

Joe

Excellent advice. A power washer will not do a damn thing to wax on
plastic. Another method you can try is to use an eraser. The real
soft/gummy ones that artists use. As for Vinylex....I cannot say enough
good things about this product. I have used every greaser available and
this stuff rules. It lasts for weeks on your dashboard and other interior
vinyl. It does great on your exterior vinyl and even tires. It has UV
protection to boot. And the best part, it does not leave that greasy
silicone feel on your hands during application. I also love Lexol, their
leather product. If you apply Lexol, wait for it to soak in a few hours,
then buff it...buff it hard...your leather seats will shine and feel
soft.....it also smells good IMO.

Perhaps he is talking about the Jim Conforti Winshield Wiper Washer Motor
Chip. It increases the power of your washer motor by 30% giving it another
.005 horsepower. It'll get those blasted dead insects off your winshield in
no time! Make sure to use only premium 3 octane washer fluid in conjuction
with this chip. Failure to do so will result in windshield washer motor
knocking. This product is not street legal and is for off-road use only.
