Then you can decide later whether you want to go the spring/shock route as well. I have a '77 320 that a PO had lowered approx. 2 in. The rear wheels now resemble that of an old Spitfire. I understand that I can slot the sub-frame or use these bushings to dial out the negative camber. It appears that I will need to correct for approx. 2 degrees and I'm not sure that these bushings will correct that much camber. I have a '91 E30 M40 318i and the other day the thermostat stuck shut! I didn't notice until the temp went off-scale. The engine seems OK but I am losing a little coolant each day - about 100-200 ml. The STRANGE thing is that it seems to be leaking into (out of?) the heater core. When I turn the heat on the windows all mist up and I get a horrible smell of anti-freeze. I guess this means stripping the whole dashboard out. Has anyone done this and can anyone give me some pointers on 'funnies' in this job. There are usually some screws or fasteners that aren't very visible. Regards DaveE. The Viper is much lighter, has a lot more power, handles better. The only area where the M5 outperforms it are the brakes - but this is hardly an area the M5 can brag about, as it's brakes are nowhere near track ready either. This is obviously not a fair comparision as these are very different cars, meant for different uses, but since you asked: Some stats: M5 vs. Viper GTS 3976 lbs vs. 3375 lbs 5 liter V8 vs. 8 liter V10 400hp vs. 450 hp. 369 lb-ft vs. 490 lb-ft (let's talk torque !) Test data: 0-60: 4.7 vs. 4.0 1/4 mile: 13.2@107 vs. 12.2@118 lat. acc.: 0.87g vs. 1.00g slalom: 65 mph vs. 72 mph Viper GTS-R has been dominating GT racing around the world for the past 3 years, winning Le Mans twice, dominating european FIA GT series in 97, 98 and 99, dominating American Le Mans Series in 99, and this weekend, scoring an overall win at the 2000 Rolex24 at Daytona, beating 21 sports racers (prototypes) 5 Vipers were among the top 10 overall finishers (overall, not in it's class!). It has been soundly beating the Porsche GT2 turbos - the M3's are not even in the same class (they wouldn't stand a chance) I used to dismiss the Vipers as Cobra wannabe caricatures when they first came out, but as a fan of sports car racing, I respect any manufacturer with this kind of commitment to the sport, and any car that is able to achieve these kinds of results (that's why I own an M3 :) - -Adam Fila '95 M3 - ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, February 08, 2000 9:38 PM Subject: [uuc] M5 vs. Dodge Viper and American Cars > I had a slight disagreement today with one of my buddies who drives a > Cobra and is very into American cars. I'm have the thinnest on my car right now and i need to fine tune the ride height of my car...i just put on bilstein and H&R springs and right now and the rear is just a little two low for my taste..i'm probably just put a 10mm in and it should be fine..but i could always put two together which would require a little cutting of the second pad but not a big deal....anyway...anyone know what the ratio is?...what a 5mm increase at the spring location would be at the wheel well height?...although the trial and error method will do...i'd prefer to have a more concrete idea in mind as to how much it would kick it up... thanks in advance, Rukman ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2000 23:29:58 -0800 From: "RussC" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re:: [uuc] M5 vs. Dodge Viper and American Cars Whoo Nelly, The Viper is the baddest fastest rig in production, that anybody can even think about affording. It will do 192mph stock. 0-60 .5s faster than ///M5, 1.4m 1s faster. I question the 1.2g for the ///M5. You can't get more than 1g with out the car moving to create downforce. The Viper has 335/30 rear tires and 275 on the front. I believe if you put the same tire type on each and leave the sizes as stock, the Viper will at least equal the ///M5. The Viper in the last MT Viva la Speed, beat the F355 F1, Porche 911, C5 Corvette, Austin Martin DB7, BMW ///M Roadster. The Viper was only beat on the road coarse by the F355 by .1s, but the Viper had Michelin Mud/Snow tires on the fronts!!!!!!! It would beat most all the cars you throw at it, except the most exotic 1/4 million dollar cars. And this is on road courses also. It probably can beat the 911tt. This is only the low end Viper, try the GTS on for size. This for only $80k. I would attack the comfort/driveability angle if I were you. The Viper is a pit to be in, and I would curse it on a long road trip RussC '88 535is Dinan Turbo Final Edition(will get smoked by a Viper) - ----- Original Message ----- From: [uucdigest] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, February 08, 2000 8:10 PM Subject: [uucdigest] V3 #222 > ------------------------------ > > Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2000 21:38:54 EST > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [uuc] M5 vs. Dodge Viper and American Cars > > I had a slight disagreement today with one of my buddies who drives a > Cobra and is very into American cars.
