I've done enough track events with enough clubs to know that the fastest, stock, car at the track is the Viper. This assumes equal driver skill, of course. As for Speedvision Cup, there are lots of rules which balance out the competition. Often times it depends on the particular track as to who has an advantage. Even at the Daytona 24 this year, the Viper got stuck with an intake restrictor on their stock based motor. The Corvettes were able to run 7 liter special race motors and still got waxed in the end. However their qualifying spot was most impressive. Think I can go to my Chevy dealer and get one of 'em? Yes, the build quality and reliability of the Viper is not the greatest (but much improving. Remember this car wasn't in real production until 7 years ago), but for the price of entry, there is plenty left over for maintenance. As for the 1.2g M5, I gotta see that to believe it. Are they equipping them with Hoosiers or what? Ted > I had a slight disagreement today with one of my buddies who drives a > Cobra and is very into American cars. My BMW has been painted at least once in it's sordid history. Dinan offers either Bilstein or Koni adjustable shocks. Does anyone know if these shocks are specially valved for Dinan, or are they the "standard" shocks for the 325 that can be bought (much) cheaper elsewhere ? Are the Bilsteins HD or Sport with the Stage 1 springs ? Also, a general question about Bilstein Sports. Apart from $50 per set and one less tube, what is the difference (stiffness, ride quality etc.) between the Twin Tube Sports and the new Mono Tube Sports ? Bobby Archer's Viper ended up winning the championship. The only BMW wins came from Kermit Upton when he drove the wheels off of that M3 at Road Atlanta. M5 Just so happens that John Hennessey has been a regular poster to the bmwm5.com message board. If you go back a few days you will find his Viper v. M5 comparison. The Viper was faster but it shocked John at how close the M5 could stay with the Viper to about 120mph, especially from a rolling start. He stated that he thinks the 1/4 mile time is not representative of the cars capability. By the way, the M5's LATERAL acc. # is not 1.2g's. That was some other measurement. Recent magazine reveiws have obtain numbers in the .9 range--which is awesome for a 4000lb car. Would he agree with Milo that an M5 would blow away a Viper? No way. He has actually added the E39 M5 to product line and has already developed an adjustable exhaust system similar to that he developed for the Viper. He happens to have been driving a 540i Sport for the last few years in addition to his Vipers. www.hennesseymotorsports.com. By the way, he is also slapping a big brake kit on the car right away. The stock brakes do not hold up well to track use.
