Hi gruppe, quick note of thanks to everyone who responded to my
question about the reverse lights not functioning. You guys were 100%
correct, I replaced the reverse light switch last night and all is well
again. One observation, on my E30 M3 the switch is on the left side of
the tranny not the right like everyone said. Looked at Neil's car and
his is on the right. :-) Once again, the list came through, you guys
rule!

Thanks,

Hi Chris,

On the advice of my mechanic (and the fact that I track my car quite a bit),
I changed both the "lifetime" tranny & diff fluids at 30,000 miles, and will
continue to do so at that interval. I believe this was the interval prior to
the "lifetime" fills, BTW.

I used Red Line 75W90 for the diff & D4-ATF for the tranny.

Cheers,

Scott, Pete Mottaz was first in 'AA' and John was first in 'A'. John
needs to watch his back for me this time as I finished second in 'A',
and I'm going to run a lot faster this time. John, are you
participating this time? I haven't received your registration yet.

Anyone considering either K-Mac camber plates or solid mount camber plates (like
Ground Control's) on a lowered car should have a look at:

http://e30m3performance.com/myths/travel/travel.htm

This information may help you make a decision.

I also have some info regarding Ground Control camber plates (and their coil over
conversion) at:

http://e30m3performance.com/installs/GC_susp/GC_susp1.htm

I own an E30 M3 but the information is actually applicable to many types of BMW.

Re. earlier post about how to get the fill plug out of a E34 diff...well
thanks to some of you I got it. I tried getting a new shorter allen socket
but that still didn't fit with my 3/8 in ratchet (which is pretty thin by
the way) and I wasn't going to go pay 50.00 or so to some snap on guy just
for that ratchet so I put my orig.. allen socket back on and was able to get
a closed end wrench around the part of the allen socket that wasn't inside
the plug. After some groaning and experlatives it finally broke loose. dont
know who the last one to put it on but man was it stuck.
And ref to Mech. 101....that's exactly what I did. I made sure I could get
the fill plug off before I drained the diff. Glad I did that..!!!

Actually it occurred to me too, that Eric
had a very impresive stable. Since I'm
not the only one that noticed it , I thought
I'd chime in. He must be working for one

snipped....

You can also use a bolt head the same size as the allen fitting and double
nut it to remove these buggers.

For of those of you who don't like to stray far from the BMW "stock"
appearance with the UUC shift knob, take a look into the short knobs that BMW
offers - They're relatively new, and I think they were designed for the Z3,
but they fit any BMW, '82 on up - I have a wood one with chrome face..
everyone who sees it thinks it came stock, and it looks 1000 times better
than the original.. I think Jason from Zionsville offers them for around $50
?

Combined with a short shift kit, that's my ultimate shifter..

I *don't* have an E30 M3, but I absolutely love this site. Tons of

Last time my car (96 M3) was in the shop, I had them change the diff fluid
to the Red Line 75W90 stuff. The next weekend, I drove the car up to an
autocross up in Reno - at the end of my second run, the diff started making
a clicking noise. The clicking noise gradually got quieter over the rest
of the weekend and the long trek back home, but I took it back to the shop
anyway. The tech took a look and said that I had chipped a couple of teeth
in the diff - it got quieter as the chipped places wore down and smoothed
out. Since he had it open, I had him drain the fluid to get rid of any
bits of metal, then he replaced it with a synthetic fluid that he
recommended - haven't had any problems with it since. I don't know if it
was a coincidence that the teeth chipped right after we put the Red Line
in, or if it was caused by the Red Line...

On the other hand, I've been pretty happy with the D4-ATF in my tranny!

Anyway, just my 2 cents worth,

Jim Ochi

Yes. Either a 105 PS (77 kW) or 118 PS (87 kW) 1.9 L two-valve engine is
available in the 4-door 316i and 318i. The 118 PS 1.9 L engine is also
available on the 318i touring, apparently another sort of touring.
