squeaking. I tried some WD-40 but had no effect. Anyone have this
experience? Thanks!

Milo, I had this problem last summer with my 95 M3. Tried to hose the
clutch return spring and bushing under the dash with WD-40 but it wouldn't
fix it for long. I suspected it needed a more substantial grease. I
notified the dealer when I had it in for routine service and he lubed the
linkage. No problem since.

To my knolwedge the new m5 comes with Dunlop 8080e's which are NOT run flat
tires. My father is the business manager for Dunlop so he tells me all this
stuff =)
In 99 (and I am guessing 00 also) Dunlop has a 100% fitment on all BMW's
EXCEPT the 7 series cars which have run flat Michelin tires on them. I do
not know if they are Pilots or not. Dunlop is working on a runflat tire at
the time.

Michael,
To answer your questions. All car that comes with
runflat tire from the factory (i.e. C5 Corvette) have
a tire pressure monitoring system and displays the
tire pressure in your dashboard and it will warn you
if the pressure of the tires drops.
You can't visually tell if a run flat tire is deflated
because the sidewall is stiff enough to support the
weight of the car and the tire will never be "flat".

Sure, you can run for them for 50 miles (or whatever)
when they are
flat, but then what? If they ride OK when flat, how
are you going to
know that they are flat?
You won't know until it is too late, and they give
out.
Unless someone took a drill and cut a 2" hole in your
sidewall.

Subject: RE: [uuc] Squeaking Clutch Pedal

This is the bane of my 94 325i. I've regreased that clutch pedal spring
assembly several times, and have replaced the (nylon?) black glide parts, to
only temporary effect. You have to remove it to grease it properly. With the
pressures there and the rotation angle, this should have been a ball bearing
assembly.

It only helped for a while when I replaced the spring with a lighter
compression unit (from the hardware store! At least it helped my left leg in
San Jose commute traffic). With that lowered spring tension, at least the
reassembly for the grease job is easier.

I'm ready to get under the car to see if this is in fact from the
transmission (stick your head out the window with the engine off and
listen). My dealer did a warranty transmission job for me a few years ago on
my third complaint. The noise was gone for several months.

I got down and checked it out at the dealer: in the newer 3 series, the
clutch pedal assembly is completely redesigned.

My understanding is that like a lot of auto manufacturers, BMW dual
sources many parts including tires. M5's are fitted with either Dunlop's
(I've heard that but can't coroberate) or Michelin Pilot sports (this I
can coroberate by walking out to my garage and looking at my 12/99 build
MY00 E39 M5). Runflats are great if you are overly worried about getting
stranded with a flat tire, they are Sh$t if you would like a true high
performance tire. AFIK BMW does not offer run flats on any current model
nor have they stated an intention to offer runflats on any future
models, and given BMW's historical perspective, runflats would have to
get significantly "better" before they would ever be offered on a high
end high performance BMW. If they ever offer them they better be an
option I can turn down.

Can this M5/runflat tire thread die now?

where they were displaying the X5 and the M5 along with a few other normal
autos. However under a car cover in a back tent was a "station wagon" with
big ol honking meaty tires he lifted up the rear cover to find a ///M5 Badge
and dual exhaust. after confronting one of the representatives of AG who flat
out denied its existence finally confessed it was the real deal, but they are
not sure if it will go into production and if it does it would not go state

Subject: [uuc] <E30> Anti Roll Bar Mounts

Anti Roll Bar experts:

While I'm still fairly new to BMW's I have been told that the stock E30 anti
roll bar mounts are weak. I just bought the M3 rear bar and the ic front
bar. This will bump me up from 12 mm to 14.5 mm in the rear and from 18.5 mm
to 21 in the front. Yes, I know the aftermarket bars are bigger but these
were inexpensive and easy to get. This car will see spirited weekend use, a
couple of school weekends, and a couple of BMW CCA Club races this year, on R
compound tires of course.

1. Since I am going up more, proportionally, in the rear, will that help dial
out some of the factory understeer? I've been told not to expect noticeably
flatter cornering but that this will help with the balance.

2. Will the mounts hold? I know there are kits that strengthen the mounts
and I will buy them if necessary. I have also installed E30 M3 springs and
Bilstein Sports....no hard race springs to help reduce body roll.

Thanks,
