When I was in to buy my T connector for my windshield washer the parts guy,
who I know quite well told me about a customer with a 750. Just out of
interest he did a customer look up and saw that this car had over $20000
CDN in work over the past 2 years. He went on to add that most of the work
was standard routine maintenance other than the replacement of the self
leveling rear suspension.

While I applaud the 750s owners obvious enthusiasm, I think its crazy. 20g
would go along way in paying down my mortgage!

All of my solutions use what I have laying around :)

Since I don't own any EZouts but my wife does crafts. I always have

If 20K would significantly affect your mortgage, you can't afford a 750.

Jim
Can't afford a used 750 either.

Subject: [uuc] Active noise cancellation mufflers

Well, I can vouch for the fact that they are available for big stationary
diesels. The company is called Walker Electronic Silencing, a division of
Tenneco Automotive (BIG OEM automotive supplier). Too lazy to look for web
site at the moment, but I would guess they have one. The muffler looks
sort of normal except on the circumference of the inlet pipe (which for
these "little" big stationary diesels is say 6"-10" diameter), there are 2
or 3 blunt cone shaped protrusions, which are the speakers, (woofers,
presumably!) radially firing into the pipe where it goes into the resonator
chamber.

They put a microphone upstream, connect it to a big amp, and drive these
"speakers" firing the anti noise. I suppose the cone material of the
speakers is stainless steel or something to cope with the temps and
conditions of exhaust, etc. I've seen their promotional video, and they
are always at the trade shows in the engine business.

The technology is pretty simple, and as previous posters have said, now
that the electronics are easily chippable, it's starting to enter the
mainstream. I don't know of any automotove i.e. CARS they are supplying,
but I suppose it's just a matter of time.

Next will be the Conforti muffler chip, to go with the engine sound CD for
the interior, which makes the outside exhaust sound of your choice. Select
"concert hall" or "midtown tunnel" or "intimate autocross" or "mulsanne
wail" or "F1 scream" ......

Rgds,

Subject: [uuc] Re: Ferrari noises in a BMW

Correct me if I'm wrong, but some portion of the sound of a particular
exhaust is the [BANG] from the engine, but that's mostly damped by the
engine block, et al.
The rest of the exhaust sound is the puff-puff of the actual exhaust gas
moving through the pipe on its way out to join the rest of pollution in
the air. A muffler or resonator slows that gas down, or something like
that. An electronic baffle wouldn't be able to damp the movement of the
gas (unless it re-aligned the atoms in the stuff, and magnetically
slowed them down, I guess).
That Lotus thingy attenuated the sound that you here in the cabin, but
not the source of that sound.
I noticed years ago that what CD I play (tape deck at the time of
discovery) affects the tone of my exhaust.
It got to the point in my old car that I would play certain tapes just
to cancel the squeaks and groans of the car and engine.
'course, I could be entirely wrong.....

I read an article once that said you could by a small foreign country with
the amount of money it takes to keep up a 750. I think they were
exaggerating a little...but...:-)

$10K a year not counting depreciation or opportunity cost? That is one
expensive car to own. Perhaps not all years are that expensive.

As far as paying down your mortgage, my philosophy is don't borrow money for
anything except your house, then borrow as much as you can for as long as
you can. Its the cheapest money you can borrow and the interest is
deductible. Investing in residential real estate should be only small part
of your total portfolio.

You should not be able to make any part of the suspension clunk by pulling
and pushing with your hands. You can make a rubber bushing flex but again,
no clunks. I think you found your problem. Find another shop.

Hi, Finally got my 1997 M3 so I have to part with my 1990 525i with an M20
motor. It has 202,000 miles but 160K of the miles are highway miles.
Modifications include Mille Mignilia 11 17" wheels, 235/45/17 tires, JC
Chip, drop in K&N Filter, short shift kit, B&B Triflo exhaust. Most
maintenance records are available, many major replacements (water pump,
timing belt) done in the last 40K miles. Car is in great shape, runs great.
Selling to make room for M3.

Thanks

I once owned a VW Karmann Ghia with a poorly installed radio. The power to
the head unit was not a direct run to the battery and no attempt was made at
installing any ignition noise suppression. The result? Ignition noise and
lots of it. All I had to do was go off-station on the AM band, turn up the
volume and drive. It wasn't quite a Ferrari sound, but it was a far cry
from the characteristic tweet of the VW flat four.

Good morning gruppe,

I noticed last night my reverse lights aren't working, I admit I
snoozed when this subject came up previously and nothing turned up in
the faq's on Dale's site, the e30net and a few others I checked.

Besides bulbs, is there a component in particular that is most likely
the problem? I have been removing the light covers lately to get the
interior trim out (rsm replacement) but everything else works fine.
