Hi all,

Yes, I am the guy who started that thread about a month ago (sorry).

Now, I am just looking for a traffic attorney in Beaverton/Portland Oregon
to help me with this ticket.

Update: my wife also received a photo ticket on the same day, same street.
Now I'm thinking I need professional help with this game.

Any recommendations on local attorneys?

thanks,

Josh,

I recently got P7000SS's on my 750. They are very good tires for this car. The
turn in is very crisp and in Calif. our sky's have been dumping a prodigious
amount of the wet stuff. These babies have been very good in the wet.
(255x40x17)
They are also quiet and seem to have a better ride quality. Of course my old
"shoes" were a set of Falken's which became bricks after about 10k miles.

I do 4-5 track events/yr. with my ever faithful daily driver. After
fooling around with the plastic BBS hubcaps for a year or so (taking 'em
off, cleaning 'em up, etc.) and loosing one somewhere along the line (not
cheap), mine live in a plastic bag - in a box - in the garage. Same box
where the plastic hub caps for my track tires live.

I guess that I'll fish 'em out when/if I decide to take the M3 to a clean
car meet.

Subject: [uuc] Dent Wizard - THE TRUTH

Whoa....guys n' girls....

Ya'll have gone BONKS about doing Dent Wizard stuff and I gotta throw at
least one wet towel on the party. There's no magic in doing this, all they
are really doing is 'working' the metal behind the panel. Lot of the guys
are very skilled at doing this, and they usually do it with homemade tools
and the like. Results vary with the skill of the operator. What you really
need to do before turning these guys loose on your car is find out HOW they
are going to gain access to the backside of the dent.

Know what I see lot of them do? Take a drill out and drill a 3/8" access
hole in your door jamb. When done they cover it up with a plastic plug,
kinda like the old Zeibart rustproofing. When I look at a used car thats
one of the first things I look for is those tell-tale plastic plugs in the
doorjambs. Now if you don't mind your car getting swiss-cheesed, then go
for it.....but to see something like a M6 with black plastic plugs in the
aluminum jamb inserts is borderline criminal.

If you can remove your door panels. etc. for access, then you can avoid all
that. Most the dent guys won't do it however, as it takes too long and
drilling a hole is fast n' easy.

Just so ya know......

CAR AND DRIVER EDITOR DIES IN CRASH Don Schroeder, senior technical
editor at Car and Driver Magazine, died on Friday while testing a
high-performance Mercedes-Benz coupe in Fort Stockton, Texas. Schroeder,
35, was a native of Syracuse, New York. He is survived by his parents,

That's all the site mentioned has. I'm sure we'll hear more later.

Tim,
Saw a 1981 320i"s" package for sale in the Lexington, KY Herald Leader today.
They are asking $600.00, they say it only needs a clutch.. Haven't seen or
heard the car personally, just thought that I would pass this one on..
If interested, let me know privately, and I will give you the phone numbers.

LOL! ok, you made your point Mike. But put in a different light, how
many people here would be willing to accept yet another electronic
part in exchange for an unrestricted exhaust? The ability to switch
off noise cancellation or even change the tuning is just icing on the
cake!

A good repair shop will see how they can access the dent without drilling.
They removed the turn signal to repair a dent on my driver's side front
quarter panel. It was hit by a golf ball.

Subject: [uuc] <OT> Tech Question - Rod Ratio

I wonder if any list members can help me with a technical question.

I wrote an Excel spreadsheet over the weekend to create a graph of piston
position vs. crankshaft angle.

My goal was to try to see exactly how much effect there is from going to a
longer rod while keeping the stroke unchanged (i.e. increasing the rod
ratio).

>From everything I have heard and read the advantages of going to a longer
rod are as follows:

1. The piston "dwells" longer at TDC, therefore allowing the combustion
pressure to build to a higher value before pushing down on the piston.

2. The peak acceleration of the pistons at TDC and BDT is reduced, so you
reduce loads on the con-rods. This allows you to pull higher RPM's or pull
the same RPM with less stress on the bottom end.

3. A longer rod reduces the side loads on the cylinder wall during the
expansion stroke.

However, my Excel chart shows that there is an insignificant difference in
dwell time (and hence peak acceleration) when the rod length is increased by
any reasonable amount. In fact, even doubling the rod length had a minimal
effect based on my calculations. FWIW I am using an 87 mm stroke and a 140
mm rod length as my baseline.

I am wondering if I may have made a mistake somewhere. Has any other list
member ever bothered with this type of thing? If so maybe you could shed
some light.

Although is to a large degree a "science project" it does have relevance as
I am currently undertaking an e30 m3 2.5 L conversion.

Thanks,

Gustave

Bob Tunnell ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) either Bob or Jim will be able to answer
any questions and handle any parts orders that you might have. If you are in
a pinch, you can email me or call the Ohio shop and T.C. will help out as
much as he can. I will be checking my email once a day at the most, so
please bear with me. Thank you again for all the business, and I'll look
forward to talking to everyone on the 24th of Feb. Pray for snow in Tahoe.
BTW, if anyone is going to be in the Lake Tahoe area during that week feel
free to drop me a line and we'll have a beer or two.

I am looking for a way to stiffen the suspension on my '95 M3 without

anyone tell me about them? Should I do struts also or just try the springs
first? I have a x-brace and a front strut brace. It bothers me that I can
push down on my M3 and get it to move about 2 inches but my friends Honda
Civic doesn't move at all. Any info would be great!

C/D Editor Schroeder Dies in Crash

Don Schroeder, senior technical editor at Car and Driver Magazine, died on
Friday while testing a modified high-performance Mercedes-Benz coupe in Fort
Stockton, Texas.

Schroeder, 35, was a native of Syracuse, New York. He is survived by his
parents, life partner Michael Vaughn, and a legion of friends at Car and
Driver and around the world.

Schroeder was my close friend, a friend to TheCarConnection, and to the
community of car writers. He began his engineering career at Lehigh
University in Pennsylvania, where his Dodge Colt Turbo earned him the envy
of just about no one - but Don loved the car, and kept it through his career
at ASC as an engineer, and into his career as a technical editor at Car and
Driver.

Don's skill behind the wheel was unparalleled by those of us in his same
generation of auto journalists. Whether racing SCCA Neons or testing some of
the fastest vehicles ever reviewed in Car and Driver, Schroeder earned the
respect of his colleagues and the admiration of those of us in the pits or
in the weeds.

His incisive writing entertained many C/D readers, as well as those of TCC
and of Italy's Gente Motori. Of all American journalists, Don was considered
the radar-detector testing expert. In 1998, Don won recognition for his
writing with a Wheels award.

Don had a keen eye for history. His home in Detroit's Boston Edison district
is one of the neighborhood's gems of 1920s architecture, and he considered
it a privilege to be a part of downtown Detroit's revival. Meanwhile, in his
garage, he kept his family's history in pristine shape - next to his
Lingenfelter-modified Triumph TR7 sat his vintage early-1960s Chevrolet
Impala, unrestored and in perfect condition, willed to him by an aunt who
left it in mint 30,000-mile condition.

Don gave much of his personal time promoting AIDS education and awareness
programs. As an organizer of Detroit-area events through Geared for Life,
Don opened his home and contributed greatly to raising money for a cure.

We at TCC will miss his sardonic wit, his wry observations, and his
contributions to the site under the pseudonym Robert Ahl, but above all we
will miss his loyal friendship.
