It seems as though occasionally 1st never fully engages and pops out with a loud thud. This happens only less than 10% of the time. Once in a parking lot I was able to feel that the shifter had not moved all the way into gear although it would not move further ...I released the clutch and depressed again and it shifted completely into gear. The transmission has only 43,000 miles on it and I am wondering if I have a transmission or a clutch problem. It otherwise shifts fine. Any thoughts? Today, 2/20/2000, there were over 75 posts following 50 live threads. I've set up outlook express which lets me look at email (such as the UUC digest) and browse newsgroup threads as well without having to download a lot of newsgroup clutter. The result - more overall BMW stuff to read and browse. A win win I believe. Although, mine only happened when I rolled up the window. I noted that the weather stripping seal was bad. I fixed it as best I could, but didnt replace it. That is probably your problem. The point about making sure to notify the seller that you will be insisting on an inspection is a good one. In general, the list of gotchas applies to buying any used car, and especially if you're buying one you won't be driving first. I've been sorely tempted a couple times over the past few weeks, even though the last thing I need is another car; what looked like a clean '86 535i 5-speed ended at something like $2350, and a pretty restored '71 300SEL 6.3 (very much the kind of car that needs an inspection before purchase, but a car that's on my Need To Own One Before I Die list) went this morning at $9200.
