Andy T "BMW Puts Lid On 3-series Cabrio" 25/2/2000 - The all-new BMW 3-Series convertible will hit British showrooms in May - and customers can choose to buy this smart-looking clip-on hard-top as a stylish option. The soft-top model will initially be sold as the 323Ci convertible, with prices announced shortly. Further models with different engine options will be introduced in 2001. However, the company is denying UK customers the opportunity to buy a 3-Series featuring four-wheel drive. Continental customers will be able to specify all-wheel-drive on some 3-Series saloon and Touring models from June, but BMW GB told Auto Express that there would not be many buyers in Britain interested in the car, so it was not worth building right-hand-drive models. But UK customers are set to enjoy other treats this spring. The 320d can now be specified with an optional automatic gearbox, while the acclaimed 330d, which features a potent 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbodiesel powerplant, is now available to order in both saloon and Touring bodystyles. Another new addition to BMW's extensive technical repertoire is ACC - Active Cruise Control. This stress-busting technology, which is an extension of the regular cruise-control feature, not only dictates the car's speed but also its distance from the vehicle travelling in front. Hi Digestors, Got a light bulb problem with my 325is. On the air condition control ('95 e36 with the rotory air condition control), the illumination light seems to be out. After knocking on it a few times, the light comes back on. But after you turn off the car, it dies again. There is two screws that is located behind the big knob control. Can I get the air condition face out once the screws are out? Or is there more to it? I tried to pull the face off after the screws are out, but it seem to be stuck on there still. Do I have to pull harder? Thanks for the help! James ps. Our '71 Rover 3500S had a feature where the spare tire could be moved from its position inside the trunk (err...the boot) and mounted to the top of the trunk lid for a little extra space. The viking emblem in the middle of the lid popped out to uncover the hole where the wheel was mounted. Even came with a wheel cover so it could be left in that configuration permanently. Perhaps all you paranoid M5 owners could do the same -- just buy an extra wheel, use a hole saw to drill a hole in the trunk lid and rig up a mount. You could use a roundel to cover up the hole when you wanted to take the spare off. ;) OBMWC: Could have saved BMW plenty of headaches if they had consulted with us before they bought Rover. The 3500 was an interesting car horribly executed. (V8 -- functional hood scoops! Road ice warning system years before BMW ever cranked out an OBC) There are good reasons why the British car industry has essentially disappeared.
