The NAD probably won't be the most suitable then - I've had a pair of NADs in the past (nice little joke for the Brits amongst us) and their strength lies in peak output current capability. However the reproduction quality itself seems to have dropped a little since their design philosophy changed a few years ago. The 304 - recently superseded - is still a good, meaty amp though. It sounds like you don't need tone controls, huge reserves of power, remote controls or any of that malarkey. So go with something simple like an Arcam Alpha or a Musical Fidelity, if they're available. If not, a dedicated headphone amp such as Sennheiser might do the job. Of all the mainstream manufacturers, I've found Denon to be amongst the best - tough, reliable and not a duffer in the range. I've used their domestic gear for mastering and their performance is as good as I'd ever need. The PMA350SE - if you can find it in your market - has few frivolities and comes without a pre-amplifier stage for gramophones, so chances are the money's been spent elsewhere more useful. ODenonC? I used to have a Denon head unit a while back, and it was so good that someone nicked it. Production began in the early part of 1996, around the time the front panel/kidneys changed to a more rounded type. They were phased in throughout the year in most markets. If you want to hide the bulk of the slightly inelegant black surrounds, try painting them in the body colour. I've seen this a couple of times and doesn't look too bad at all (much cheaper than new front wings, anyway). You'll have to paint the rubber gasket as well, though - don't know how long the paint would last. I adjusted the boot, and noticed that the rubber at top the boot is crooked, causing the boot to be un parallel with the shock. My questions is, is that something I should be worrying about? The shock boot is made of somewhat heavy plastic, so it couldn't wear THROUGH the metal right?
