Thanks. Our kid-hauler was ailing, so we were recently in the market. Seriously considered an E34 528iT. We both really really wanted it. Truly smitten. But then family practicality reared its ugly head. Let's count... Lauri plus Bob plus three kids plus the dog (no, not a poodle) can all fit. But when Grandma and Grandpa come to visit, or when we want to haul other kids to soccer or church or Cub Scouts or whatever, do we strap them to the roof rack? Drive two cars? (This happens too often to be logistically practical.) Alas, no folding seat in the way-back for carrying extra pax. We're too happy with our Bimmer to look at Saab or Volvo or Mercedes wagons, though they all have the +2 seats in back. So we got another 7-seat Dodge Grand Caravan instead. Sigh... In Silicon Valley low mileage M3's are still going for over $30K.. A co-worker just sold his 32K mile '95 BMW M3 with Fikse FM10's for $32K. If the E46 M3 MSRP's for greater than $50K, then I see that slowing the depreciation of the used E36 M3's even more. I know it's nuts, but that's what the used super sedan market can bear. The only real competition the M3 has, in performance and utility, is the 2000 Audi S4. If you don't buy the set, I'd suggest starting with Drive to Win and Tune to Win - the rest of the books in the series (Engineer to Win, Prepare to Win, Fasteners blah blah blah) are more slanted towards constructing/maintaining a race car. Also, if you do track or autocross events or have a tweaked suspension, get a copy of his "Pocket Engineer" - it has two sections, one a list of car handling problems and possible causes/solutions, and the other a list of car changes and what effect they have on the handling. Very useful, especially when your car isn't handling up to snuff, and you want to make some changes before your next run... There's also a book by Don Alexander on suspensions that's pretty good - unfortunately, I don't have the title handy... The pump should start. Don't keep it on long because its pumping gas into your cylinders. The fuel pump relay is the large relay attached to the side of the fuse box. On the side of this relay it should show the pin configuration. This relay may have 5 or 6 pins. The pump should never run when the car is not running, this is a safety feature to cut the fuel in case of accident and the engine stops. Stripped the car was right at $ 36K , and most came fully loaded unless you wanted to order one special. Typical options you found on most '95 M3's were Sunroof , Heated Seats, On-Board Computer, and Cruise Control which made the sticker on the car go to $ 41,900.00. Now, most cherry ones are in the $ 29K to 31K range. A lot of these cars have very expensive upgrades to them as well, which can also postively affect the resale price. '95 M3 rats are selling in the low 20's. M3's have held their value as they are a highly desirable car. The automotive press loves them and they have few vices. That keeps the value up - just like it does on Porsche 911's and Chevy Surburbans.
